Why is Your Car Vibrating?

European auto repair Ann Arbor

Is your car shaking?

Are you worried that there could be a serious issue?

Not sure where to start?

You expect a smooth ride to and from work each day. Let’s see what could be causing your vibration by asking these questions:

  • Does the vibration get worse as you accelerate?
  • Does the vibration happen only at certain speeds? If so, at what speed?
  • Is the vibration concentrated in the car seat or the steering wheel?
  • s there any abnormal noise when your car shakes?
  • Does your car vibrate while idling?

Wheels and tires: Potential problems include improper wheel and tire balance, uneven tire wear, separated tire tread, damaged wheels or loose lug nuts.

Worn suspension, and joints: If your suspension or steering system is loose, it can cause your steering wheel to shake. We can inspect your ball joints and analyze other components to see what’s causing the vibration.

Engine and transmission: If the vibration happens while you’re driving and continues when you idle, the problem could be your engine or transmission.

Damaged Brake Rotors: Do you feel a vibration in your steeling wheel? If so, this could indicate a brake or rotor issue.

Ford’s First Automobile

Ford Service Ann Arbor

The 1896 Ford Quadricycle Runabout was the first car ever built by Henry Ford. It was a gasoline powered automobile that utilized commonly available materials like an angle iron frame, four bicycle wheels, a leather belt and chain drive for the transmission, and a buggy seat to accommodate passengers.

On June 4,1896 in a tiny workshop behind his Detroit home on 58 Bagley Avenue, Ford put the finishing touches on his pure ethanol-powered motor.  After more than 2 years of experimentation, Ford completed his first automobile at the age of 32.  He dubbed his creation the “Quadricycle,” because it ran on four bicycle tires. You even take a tour of the Henry Ford Museum where it is on display.

The earliest cars were built by hand, one by one. The first car Ford sold was for $200. In the 1800’s that was considered very expensive. These particular automobiles were seen as toys for the rich and famous. In the 1890s, the “horseless carriage” was a relatively new idea, with almost no one having any idea what a car should look like or how it should work.

The success of the little vehicle led to the founding of the Henry Ford company and then later the Ford Motor Company in 1903.  As they say, the rest is history!

Driving Trips for The Summer!

domestic service Ann ArborAre you planning your next road trip?

In need of a summer getaway?

Quarantine lasted a bit too long for many of us, and everyone wants to get out of the house!

The Finger Lakes in New York is great for a weekend getaway. If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, the Finger Lakes are a must-see destination! From hiking and biking to boating and fishing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. There are also a number of state parks with scenic beauty to behold, including a number of parks with waterfalls. Though most noted for their wine tours, the Finger Lakes region is also known for boat tours and food tours.

Hocking Hills, Ohio is more than 70% wooded. It sits within Vinton county and borders several state parks, a state forest, and is part of a national forest. It also has more than 70 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and backpacking. Nearby, there are 300 miles of trails for off-road vehicles to get into plenty of shenanigans. The area also has beautiful bridges and waterfalls.

Another wonderful place for a weekend getaway is our very own Mackinac Island. Did you know that there are no hotel chains on the Island? There are 1600 unique rooms to choose from at the most well-known hotel on the island – the Grand Hotel. Mackinac Island is home to beautiful horse drawn carriage rides and bike rentals for you to use when you’re exploring the Island. There’s no shortage of tours, restaurants, shopping or fishing charters.

Keep Up on Refrigerant

domestic service Ann ArborIn our beautiful state of Michigan, you never know what the weather will be like. That’s why it’s important to make sure your air conditioning is in proper working condition.

On hot summer days, it can be frustrating driving around in a car with a nonfunctional cooling system. If your vehicle blows only warm air on hot days, it’s probably because it’s low on refrigerant. This is most likely caused by a leak in your refrigerant hose.

When there isn’t enough refrigerant in the air conditioner serious compressor damage may occur. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant and keeps it flowing through the system. Most modern vehicles are designed to shut down once the refrigerant levels drops to a certain level in order to prevent damage to the compressor. Fixing compressor damage can be very expensive and is best to avoid whenever possible.

Bring your vehicle to ArborMotion because A/C problems won’t fix themselves. A non-functioning air conditioner isn’t only about comfort: the air conditioner also dehumidifies to defrost and defog the windows, so you can see where you are going.

Don’t Forget to Schedule a Tire Rotation!

Do you rotate your tires regularly? Why is a tire rotation important?

Tire rotation will preserve balanced handling and traction. It will also promote even tread wear, keeping you and your family safe.
european auto repair ann arbor

If you don’t have your tires rotated on a front-wheel-drive vehicle, it will eventually result in the front tires having significantly less tread than the rear tires. The front tires transfer power to the road and steer the vehicle, so they tend to wear more quickly.

Whether you do it yourself or have experts rotate your tires, the following should be done:

  1. Examine each tire thoroughly for tread or sidewall damage.
  2. Check the date. Tires can deteriorate over time, becoming less safe.
  3. Use a torque wrench to tighten your lug nuts.
  4. Check the tire pressure using a quality gauge.

Things to Consider While Your Vehicle Sits

Your vehicles probably aren’t getting a lot of use right now. Even if you don't depend on your vehicle, you should still get out and drive it. You may be asking yourself why? Isn’t that a waste of gas? No. Vehicles need exercise just like living things or their systems atrophy.

These are the top four things you should be worried about when your car sits for a long period of time:

  1. Battery
  2. Brakes
  3. Engine oil

Stay Safe on the Road During Construction Season.

Auto repair is considered an essential business and during the Stay at Home orders you are allowed to bring your car in for maintenance and repairs!

european auto repair ann arborWe all know that in the state of Michigan each year we have major construction in spring and summer. When we are able to get back on the road the orange cones will already be out and we can anticipate long delays and general inconvenience. We also need to think about the construction workers and their safety. At ArborMotion, we can help with that! We can make sure your brakes are up to date, that you have good tread on your tires, check your fluids and also make sure all of your lights are working properly.

When you approach a construction zone, use extra caution, and slow down where people are working near the road. Obey all directions by flag people. Treat all construction workers with respect and remain calm if traffic is delayed. Be patient with posted construction speed limits. They’re frustrating, but the lower limits are for everyone's safety.

As always, remember that we hand wash every vehicle with your service, who doesn't love a bright shiny vehicle on a beautiful sunny day?

What You Might Not Know About the History of Lincoln and Cadillac!

Cadillac Service Ann ArborArborMotion lives on the domestic side, too! Not only do we love our Ford and Chevy customers, but we also love our Lincoln and Cadillac customers.

As the luxury division of Ford Motor Company, Lincoln makes upscale luxury vehicles and was founded by Henry M. Leland in 1917. Ford bought the company, named after Abraham Lincoln, in 1922.

The Lincoln brand has always been popular among Prime Ministers, Presidents and even gangsters! John F. Kennedy was driven in a 4-door Lincoln Continental when he was assassinated and you can actually visit that very car at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.

Did you know that Al Capone’s Cadillac was the first bulletproof presidential limo? It was a 1928 Cadillac Sedan that was fully armored to protect against rival gangs. This vehicle was impounded by the Treasury Department when Capone was sent to Alcatraz.

The founder of Cadillac, Henry M. Leland, (yes, the same Henry who founded Lincoln) worked as an apprentice for gun maker Samuel Colt.

Leland also reworked the single-cylinder engine from an Oldsmobile and tripled its output from 3.7 to 10.3 horsepower!

Cadillac and Lincoln have come a long way and have been transformed into powerful car brands in the automotive world; ArborMotion would love to service yours!
