Tips for Navigating The Secretary of State in Michigan at this time:

The Secretary of State offices have reopened. To protect their staff and public health, offices will only provide services by appointment, and only offer critical services that can’t be completed online, by mail or at a self-service station. Advance appointments become available six months ahead of time.

Same-day appointments become available 24 hours before an appointment time. Many transactions can be completed from home by mail or using online services. Vehicle registration tabs can be printed immediately at any of the Secretary of State’s convenient self-service stations.

The following five transactions can be scheduled and completed in person:

  • Driver's license
  • State identification cards
  • Title Transfers
  • Testing
  • Seasonal commercial vehicle renewals

Customers also have the option to schedule an appointment to complete two or more transactions at one time. Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed legislation that temporarily extends the expiration dates of all Michigan driver’s licenses, state ID’s and vehicle registrations through September 30, 2020. Back to School Driving Safety

This year has been stressful enough without having to worry about going back to school.  However, some schools in our area have decided to go back to full time, in-person instruction.

Here are some back-to-school driving tips to keep you and your family safe:

  • Slow down and drive with extra caution.
  • Don’t load or unload children across the street from their school.
  • Don’t double park; it can interfere with visibility of children and vehicles.
  • When flashers are blinking, stop and yield to pedestrians crossing the crosswalk or intersection.
  • Be prepared for children to appear in unexpected places, like between parked cars. If children are on bikes, be prepared for them to turn in front of you without looking or signaling.
  • If you need to use your phone, be sure you’re pulled over safely.
  • Watch for kids who are walking while looking down at their phones. According to SafeKids.org, “39 percent of the students who are crossing the street while distracted are typing on a cell phone and listening to headphones.”
  • Don’t block the crosswalk; it forces pedestrians to go around you and could put them in the path of oncoming traffic.
