All About Your Vehicle's Braking System

Your vehicle's braking system is one of its most important safety features. Every time you press the brake pedal, a complex system works together to help you stop safely and maintain control. If you've noticed squeaking, grinding, vibrations, or a longer stopping distance, it may be time to schedule European auto repair in Ann Arbor with our experienced team.

Your braking system includes several components, including:

• Brake Pads: These create the friction needed to slow down your vehicle and they naturally wear down over time.
• Brake Rotors: Rotors work with your brake pads to stop your wheels. Worn or warped rotors can cause vibrations when braking.
• Brake Calipers: Calipers apply pressure to the brake pads, ensuring consistent braking performance.
• Brake Fluid: This hydraulic fluid transfers force from the brake pedal to the braking system. Over time, it can absorb moisture and should be replaced according to your manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

European vehicles such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Volvo, MINI, and Land Rover are designed with advanced braking technology that requires specialized knowledge and equipment to service correctly.

Our certified technicians perform thorough brake inspections, diagnose issues accurately, and use high-quality parts designed specifically for your European vehicle. Whether you need new brake pads, rotor replacement, brake fluid service, or a complete brake system inspection, we're committed to helping you drive with confidence.

If your brakes don't feel quite right—or you simply want peace of mind before your next road trip—schedule European auto repair in Ann Arbor today. Keeping your braking system in top condition helps protect you, your passengers, and everyone else on the road.

What’s That Noise? Don’t Ignore the Sounds Your Car Is Making

A strange noise coming from your vehicle is often your car's way of telling you something isn't right. Whether it's a squeal, clunk, rattle, or grinding sound, catching the problem early can help prevent more expensive repairs down the road. If you're searching for European auto repair in Ann Arbor, our experienced technicians can help diagnose the issue and get you back on the road.

Here are a few common vehicle noises and what they could mean:

• Squealing when braking: Your brake pads may be worn and need replacement.
• Grinding sounds: This could indicate metal-on-metal brake contact or a more serious drivetrain issue.
• Clunking over bumps: Worn suspension components or loose steering parts may be the culprit.
• Whining under the hood: Belts, pulleys, or power steering components could be wearing out.
• Knocking from the engine: This may signal an engine issue that should be inspected as soon as possible.

Our factory-trained technicians use advanced diagnostic equipment to accurately identify unusual noises and recommend the right repair—without unnecessary guesswork.

If your vehicle is making a sound you've never heard before, don't wait for it to become a bigger problem. Schedule an appointment with us for European auto repair in Ann Arbor and let our team help keep your vehicle running quietly, safely, and reliably.

Brake Check: Ensuring Your BMW's Stopping Power

BMWs are known for their performance and precision engineering. One critical component of an exceptional driving experience is having reliable brakes. While many drivers are familiar with basic brake maintenance, BMWs often incorporate advanced technologies that require a specialist to maintain and repair in order to get the most life out of your brakes.

Why Choose a BMW Specialist at ArborMotion for Brake Service?

When was the last time your brakes were inspected?  If you can’t remember, it  would be wise to schedule a full brake system inspection. Your brakes are especially important on slushy and icy roads! Our BMW specialist technician can diagnose and address issues promptly, ensuring optimal performance and safety. BMWs sophisticated braking systems may feature:

• Anti-lock Brake System (ABS): This prevents wheel lockup during braking, improving steering control.
• Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD): This adjusts braking force to individual wheels based on road conditions and load.
• Dynamic Stability Control (DSC): This helps maintain vehicle stability during cornering and braking.

Are You Experiencing Brake Trouble?

If you notice any of the following symptoms, it's time to schedule a brake inspection:

1. Squishy or soft brakes: This could indicate worn brake pads or a problem with your brake fluid.
2. Grinding or metallic noise: If you hear this sound, this is a sign of worn brake pads or rotors.
3. Pulling to one side: This might be the result of uneven brake wear or a problem with your  brake calipers.
4. Brake Pulsation: This is a serious problem that could be the result of warped or corroded rotors, worn brake pads or damaged calipers that can impact your ability to brake.

Common BMW Repairs

Your BMW is beautifully made, but what are some repairs to be aware of? What things do we keep an eye on at ArborMotion so your BMW runs as long as possible?

Standard Maintenance

All vehicles need standard maintenance. Broadly speaking, this includes your oil changes, brakes, all your fluids, spark plugs and coils, and battery. Every time you bring your BMW into ArborMotion, we do a multi-point inspection, and compare your current mileage to the BMW recommended schedule for your year, make and model.

Oil System

A common concern for some BMWs (less-so in newer models, thankfully) is leaking oil. There are a few components within the oil system, like the valve cover gasket and the fuel pump, that can become problematic. You may notice puddling of oil under your vehicle, or even a “low oil” light on the dashboard. When we do our multi-point inspection, we’re checking the health of these potential trouble areas. This is one of the reasons it’s so important to bring your BMW in for regular service with ArborMotion!

Cooling System

Your engine cooling system is arguably one of the most important components to your BMW. Even with all the advancements BMW has made with technology, these systems don’t run forever. Eventually, you may notice an overheating warning light or a high temperature on your temperature gauge. If this happens, call ArborMotion right away so we can get to the heart of the issue and get you back on the road as quickly as possible!

• Shocks
• Struts

BMW 3 Series Service in Ann Arbor!

We’re featuring the BMW 3 Series this month because our very own BMW specialist, Andrew Daley, drives one. Andrew drives the M3 model, the most powerful version of the 3 Series.

The BMW 3 Series has been in production since May of 1975 and is BMW’s best selling model, accounting for 30% of the BMW brand’s total annual sales.

The first generation in the 3 Series was only available in a 2-door Coupe. However, the model range has since expanded to include a 4-door saloon, 2-door convertible, 2-door coupe, 5-door estate, 5-door lift back and 3-door hatchback styles.  Since 2013, the coupe and convertible models have been marketed as the 4 series. As a result, the 3 Series no longer offers these body styles.

Fun Fact: The BMW emblem on the wheel cap of newer models is weighted so the emblem is right side up even when the tires are rotating.

If you have a BMW 3 Series or any other BMW, make an appointment for maintenance or repair at ArborMotion with our BMW specialist Andrew.

3 New Year’s Resolutions for Every Car Owner

Happy New Year from the ArborMotion team! We hope you had a great holiday in your household and are feeling healthy and refreshed for a brand new year!

As we all know, the new year is a great time to set New Year’s resolutions or goals to help better yourself throughout the year. What are your New Year’s resolutions? Some of us at ArborMotion have resolutions focused on improving our exercise habits and some of us have resolutions to read more books.

Whatever your New Year’s resolution may be, did you take your car into consideration? While making resolutions to improve your health and overall lifestyle are great, adding a few for your car is a great idea. Make yourself a better car owner and keep your car in the best condition with these three New Year’s resolutions.

1. Don’t Neglect Car Maintenance

The most important car maintenance you’ll need to keep up with this year are oil changes, batteries, brakes, and your car's air filters.

2.  Stay Focused on the Road

Did you know that on average nine people are killed by distracted driving in the US every day?  There are many things that are considered distracted driving that we might all be guilty of: texting, changing the music, using an app, taking a photo, or even eating and drinking while cruising down the road.

3.  Be Courteous to Other Drivers

Driving can be frustrating, especially in these unusual times. Let’s all share the road with understanding, patience and good vibes sent out to those around us. Even if you are not reciprocated in kind, you did your part to keep us all together. Can’t hurt, right??!!

Have a Happy and Safe New Year’s from all of us at ArborMotion!
